The Importance of being taught
by the Holy Spirit and not men
1Jo 2:20 But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.
1Jo 2:27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.
Joh 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
Joh 14:17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
Joh 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
Joh 15:26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:
Joh 16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
Joh 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
1Co 2:9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
1Co 2:10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.
Scripture clearly teaches that it is the Holy Spirit who leads us into all truth, and it is He who teaches us all things.
So why do we need a teacher? God has always spoken through men in the earth, even Jesus had to come into this realm in a physical body. The Holy Spirit today, still speaks through men. So that is how he teaches us now. It is not the man who is leading us into all truth it is the indwelling Holy Spirit, without Whose guidance we could not tell right teaching from false teaching.
Churches of all stripes have more than enough false doctrine to keep them from coming into the fullness of the stature of the LORD Jesus. That is because we are untrained in how to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit.
We must know His leading or we will be forever blown to and fro like little children.
If we think it is easy to know His leading consider the beloved Apostle Peter:
Gal 2:11 But when Peter was come to Antioch, I withstood him to the face, because he was to be blamed.
Gal 2:12 For before that certain came from James, he did eat with the Gentiles: but when they were come, he withdrew and separated himself, fearing them which were of the circumcision.
Gal 2:13 And the other Jews dissembled likewise with him; insomuch that Barnabas also was carried away with their dissimulation.
Gal 2:14 But when I saw that they walked not uprightly according to the truth of the gospel, I said unto Peter before them all, If thou, being a Jew, livest after the manner of Gentiles, and not as do the Jews, why compellest thou the Gentiles to live as do the Jews?
Obviously a case of Peter being led by Peter and Paul being led by the Holy Spirit.
Paul clearly explains how the great revelations he had about the mysteries of the Gospel came to him by revelation and not the teaching of a man:
Gal 1:11 But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man.
Gal 1:12 For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.
Gal 1:13 For ye have heard of my conversation in time past in the Jews' religion, how that beyond measure I persecuted the church of God, and wasted it:
Gal 1:14 And profited in the Jews' religion above many my equals in mine own nation, being more exceedingly zealous of the traditions of my fathers.
Gal 1:15 But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother's womb, and called me by his grace,
Gal 1:16 To reveal his Son in me, that I might preach him among the heathen; immediately I conferred not with flesh and blood:
Gal 1:17 Neither went I up to Jerusalem to them which were apostles before me; but I went into Arabia, and returned again unto Damascus.
Gal 1:18 Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to see Peter, and abode with him fifteen days.
How can we, the average Christian be led and taught by the Holy Spirit? I know it sounds simple, but get to know Him. How? The same way you get to know anyone, by spending time with them, talking with them, LISTENING to them, learning their language. How well would you know your spouse if you never LISTENED to them, or if they spoke a different language than you?
Knowing Him and his leading is the ONLY way to avoid the errors so commonly taught in the churches.
